Description
Inverroche Verdant Gin is a pioneering South African craft spirit that bridges the gap between traditional European gin-making and the rich botanical diversity of Africa.
Founded by Lorna Scott and her family in 2011 in Still Bay, South Africa. “Inver” is a Celtic word meaning confluence of water (where the Goukou River meets the Indian Ocean), and “Roche” is French for rock/stone (referencing the local limestone soils). Distilled in small, individually numbered batches using a custom copper pot still nicknamed “Magnanimous Meg”.
What gives this gin its signature translucent golden-green hue and delicate profile is a brief post-distillation infusion of late summer blooms and Kooigoed (an indigenous fynbos herb).
Tasting Notes of Inverroche Verdant Gin
- Aroma (Nose): Airy, elegant, and highly aromatic. Dominated by elderflower, chamomile, and lemon verbena with a subtle green-herbal edge.
- Taste (Palate): Opens with bright citrus rind and summer flowers before transitioning into a soft herbal middle. Juniper is present but integrated gently alongside subtle wood spice and alluring liquorice.
- Finish: Dry, clean, and quietly aromatic. The liquorice and waxy lemon coat the palate, preventing the spirit from feeling thin.
